FAQs

We handle all kinds of transcription work -- Interviews, dictations, business meetings, conference calls, focus groups, press briefings, lectures, legal deposition and other legal transcription needs, radio shows, video shows, panel discussions, sermons, seminars, etc. We do transcription work for professors, teachers, students, insurance professionals, financial professionals, doctors, psychiatrists, preachers, market researchers, corporate meetings, lawyers, and more.

GMR Transcription Services mostly use qualified transcribers in its panel who work from home. We have over 75 transcribers in our panel, located mostly in the USA. We do have some transcribers located in Canada, and a very few (mostly medical transcribers) in India.

We will work with almost any format of audio! We prefer digital files simply because we send the audio files to transcribers through our secured website. If you have an audio file on a tape, then we will convert it into a digital file for a fee. Whatever your file format, we will help you get it transcribed.

We are constantly asked by our clients how we can charge up to 80% less than our competition for transcription services and still be in business. Below is the simple explanation:

First of all, we run a tight ship. We choose our promotions carefully and insure every advertising dollar pays for itself; we streamline our systems and billing processes; we also do not waste money on unnecessary things like fancy offices in ritzy buildings, expensive furniture, etc.

Secondly, we are straight-shooters. There are no tricks in what we do, just good, old-fashioned, reliable business principles. Quite often we are asked if we bait our customers with low-rates advertisement and then try to sell higher packages. Anyone who expects us to do that will be disappointed. Our prices are listed right on the website. There are no surprises.

Thirdly, we are looking for a long-term relationship and referrals from satisfied clients like you will be, so we do not need to gouge you like our competitors because they consider you a “one-time” client and intend to extort as much as they can get from you.

The end result is that we are a small but profitable company with a large number of satisfied clients, expects to be in business for many years to come. All of this, of course, is due to value-conscious customers like you. Please click on the below link to view our customer testimonials.

We have a large pool of transcribers and another very large pool waiting to join our panel of transcribers. We can handle projects of any size. However, we may need some time to organize for transcription work of over 10 hours that requires a very short turnaround time.
We convert all audio tapes in digital form, and will send your original tape back. We advise that you make a copy of your master tapes just in case your tape gets lost or damaged in shipping. Also, please make certain to send, along with the media, a self-addressed, stamped envelope or package in order to return the media.

Translation FAQ

Most of our Spanish translators are located in US. We do use some translators located in South American countries like Argentina, Columbia, Mexico etc.We specially use them if translation requires dialects of these countries.

Unlike other companies, GMRT publishes the fee for most of the work we get. Please click here to see the fee rates.

Unless asked upfront, we use the "American" dialect of Spanish. It is the language that you hear on TV or print. We do have Spanish translators in other countries and do accommodate specific requests for translation to be used in another Spanish speaking country.

Free tools are good for getting the gist of the content translated. It will never be of broadcast or print quality.

Most of the translation companies, including GMRT, use freelancers. The difference is that a good translation company like GMRT has vetted the freelancers and also has quality control process. Translators working for GMRT go through the following process:
  1. Pass rigorous translation test.
  2. Sign confidentiality agreement that they will never discuss the content with anyone, and that they will destroy all materials within three days after the project is completed.
  3. All work goes through our quality check before they are sent to our clients.
  4. Translators are constantly evaluated for the quality of their work and timeliness of completing work. Anyone not meeting our quality standards and timeliness of project completion is removed from our panel.
Yes, GMRT provides translation services in British English, Mandarin, German, French, Hindi, Arabic and Dutch languages.

FAQ for Applicants

Only applicants who apply though the Careers section of our website will be considered. Please do not call our offices; your question can most likely be answered here!

We are always looking for well qualified typists for general transcription. We DO NOT hire for medical or legal transcription.

We do not disclose pay rates until you are hired. The pay rates are based on the turnaround time, number of speakers, and quality of audio.

We ask that our typists accept at least 4 hours worth of audio each month. We do have a lot of work to offer, so if you are willing to take the work, we have a lot to give out. We let you know what work is available and the details (pay rate, due date, etc.) and you let us know if you would like to take it.

We do not require any experience, but because we guarantee our clients 98% accuracy, we have a very strict grading policy. We find that most people passing our tests have years of experience or have been certified in general transcription.

Please go to www.gmrtranscription.com and click on the Careers tab on home page just below services section. There, you will be able to submit your resume. Once you submit your resume, you will be emailed the test and instructions on how to take and submit it.

The test is automatically sent after you submit your resume, so we cannot email it to you again. First, make sure you selected "Yes" to "Are you willing to take a short test?" when you uploaded your resume. Second, check your Spam or Junk folder in your email. The system only accepts one email address per applicant, so you can try again with another email address. The typists that we hire must have reliable email accounts, so if you are not receiving our emails, you will not be able to work with us.

The audio files are in a zipped file format. You can download a free program called PeaZip in order to open the files. You can find this program by Google searching for "PeaZip".

The email that is automatically sent to you ALWAYS has an attached zipped folder with all the instructions and templates that you will need. Save the folder to your computer, and open the files to view them. We will automatically fail anyone who does not submit the test transcript in our standard format. All formatting questions can be answered in the Style Guide, template, and letter with directions that is in the attached packet.

Go back to the Careers section of the website, or go to this link: uploadTestTFile You will need your email address and "Voice File Id" that was given to you in the email that has all the testing materials. Once you log in,you will be able to upload you test transcript. Make sure that it is in ".doc" format.

If we would like to hire you, you will be contacted within 2 weeks. If you do not hear from us, that mean we would NOT like to offer you a contract.

Yes, all new typists must complete 2 hours worth of audio before receiving paid work. During this probation period, we will be carefully proofreading your work to ensure that your transcripts are up to our standards.
