Digital Transcription
In old times we used to drive all the way to the transcription services offices
and drop off our audio tapes and wait to receive the paper transcript back. Alternatively
we mailed them to the company. But now, most transcription work is done online.
Digital transcription became possible with the popularity for mp3 and av format.
It became easy to record digitally and easier to upload those recorded files on
a server.
Today the number of people using analog tapes compared to digital media is in minority.

However, digital transcription is the future. When the files are in digital form,
they can be accessed at any time and can be scrolled to an exact time on the file
to hear the portion of audio desired at that time. The turnaround time is reduced
significantly.
Digital recordings can be saved in a variety of formats like MP3, MP4, WAV, WMA,
AVI etc. MP3 and WAV are the format used for storing sound in files. The MP3 file
is one of the most common formats for digital music. MP3 files are small in size,
will work with almost any new portable player and are compatible with most computer
software.
Wav files have better in sound quality. WAV sound files end with a .wav extension
and can be played by nearly all Windows applications that support sound.
Digital transcriptions are also provided from digital dictation recordings. The
dictation can now be recorded and played digitally meaning that dictation can be
received from anywhere in the world within minutes. Digital dictation machines can
be purchased from a wide range of suppliers and digital voice files can be created.
Dictation is carried out using the same method as cassette dictation i.e. using
a hand held recorder, but instead of recording onto a tape the recorder has a memory
chip.
